Stepping Into Your Leadership Identity
Audio coming soon — follow along with the written meditation below
Introduction
Read slowly. Pause where indicated (…)
Find a quiet place and settle in. Let your body relax — your shoulders, your hands, your face. Take a breath in through your nose… and release it slowly through your mouth.
You have been many things to many people. A colleague. A professional. A team member. A woman who holds things together.
Today, we are adding one more truth: a leader. Not a leader someday. Not a leader once you get the title. A leader right now, in this moment, exactly as you are.
Body
Leadership is not a destination you arrive at. It is a decision you make — again and again — to show up fully in the spaces where your influence matters.
And you have been making that decision for longer than you realize.
Breathe in… and release. (…)
Think about the times someone came to you when they didn't know what to do. The times you were the steady one in the room. The times your perspective changed the direction of a decision. The times your presence made the people around you better.
That was leadership. You were already doing it.
Now I want you to breathe into this question — not with your mind, but with your whole body: What kind of leader am I?
Not what kind should I be. Not what kind does the organization want. What kind are you, naturally, authentically, fully?
Maybe you lead with warmth and still hold the standard high. Maybe you lead with vision, always seeing further than the room. Maybe you lead through questions, through presence, through the kind of listening that makes people feel truly heard.
Whatever the answer — that is your leadership identity. And it is valid exactly as it is.
Breathe in deeply… and release. (…)
Now visualize yourself standing fully in that identity. See yourself in a room, not managing your presence but simply being it. Watch the way people respond — not because you performed, but because you arrived as yourself, completely.
See the confidence in your posture. The clarity in your voice. The ease of someone who has stopped waiting for permission.
This is you when you stop shrinking. This is you when you lead.
Breathwork
Breathe in clarity… breathe out confusion about who you are.
Breathe in authority… breathe out the need for permission.
Breathe in your leadership… breathe out the waiting.
Sit with this for a moment… (pause 30 seconds)
Repeat after me:
“I am a leader — not someday, right now.”
“My leadership identity is mine to define, mine to own, mine to express.”
“I give myself full permission to lead.”
Closing
Take a slow breath in… and release. (…)
Your leadership identity is not something you have to build from scratch. It is something you already have — you simply have to stop apologizing for it.
When you open your eyes today, carry this with you: you are already the leader someone in your life is waiting for. The only question is whether you will show up as her.
Go lead.
